Product To Return : MCL2003 MMax Pro 160A ESC
Problem With Product : I had wired the unit to a Fantom FR1 17.5 motor. THe system was going in to a TLR 22 4.0SR. The system was wired and turned on. Everything got hot. The motor, esc and battery. THe motor began to smoke immediately. The motor operated properly before hooking it up to this system. After this happened, I wired the motor to a Tekin RS. I powered on that system and the motor did not smoke. I had spoken with JP Richards, a Maclan team driver at the JConcepts Fall Indoor Nationals, and showed him the video that I took of the problem, and he was perplexed as he had never seen that before. I have a couple of the Maclan ESC’s, and a few motors. I did not hook another motor up to this ESC for fear to destroying another motor. I am requesting this unit to be fixed, or replaced as there has been minimal use on it. I am not happy that it caused damage to a fully built by the factory Fantom motor.

Thank you!

User Note

Check-in: 10/17/2017 2:56pm by Barbara

Inspection:

  • The unit was purchased in Feb. It is out of warranty period.
  • The capacitor module was found to have different length on wires. The negative wire was shorten. See photo.

IMG_5457

  • The MOSFET board has a sign of shorten with permanent damage. See photo.

IMG_5458

  • The cost of rebuild the ESC with brand new control board + MOSFET board + capacitor module is $100.
  • The customer declined to provide proof of purchase and an offer of $50 to rebuild the ESC outside of warranty. With further inspection the control board was OK, the MOSFET board was completely shorted in all A/B/C phases. That feeds direct battery voltage to the motor and caused the smoke. The MOSFET board damaged was caused by outside force. Please see RMA719 MOSFET board inspection video.  The video shows all A/B/C phases were shorted which was caused by improper phases signal from a motor or improper power input.
  • The customer requested to mail back the unfixed ESC.
