User Note

9/6/2017 Inspection

  • Unit was found to have re-soldered capacitor module wires with poor soldering joints. Please see photo below.

  • The failure of the ESC could be a combination of different factors. The re-soldered capacitor module could have affected effectiveness. The improper heat on the solder joint could lead to melt the MOSFET soldering point internally and moreover to short the MOEFET power board. Please see below:

  •  With those modified wires that show poor soldering joints would affect warranty. Could you please reply to us and advise if you have specific reason to re-solder the capacitor module? Thank you!!

Customer replied:

The capacitor was moved to fit in buggy properly.  The car worked fine for two afternoons and quit working on the second. If it will not be fixed under warranty send it back.

Maclan Racing replies:

We will do a one-time repair for free, no worries there. But we would like to point out that the solder points on the capacitor module could have very well have caused this. We can’t know for sure of course, but having a high resistance solder joint there can cause the capacitor bank to not function at all. The purpose of the capacitor module is to clean up dirty power from being fed back into the esc. Typically, in a situation like this, the ESC would not be warrantied and would cost the customer $80 to replace the bad component boards. We will have this back out to you as soon as we can.

  • Rebuilt the ESC with brand new POWER MOSFET board and capacitor module. Test OK. Please see RMA#694 video.
