Product To Return : MCL2009 DRK160 ESC
Problem With Product : Literally used for one hit w/ a brand new Dash V3 3.5t R-Spec motor. Used the 3.5t low traction tune. Tried a different sensor wire, checked sensor gap and rotor float all within recommended specs per Colin Branch. After the first hit on the esc, it now has a terrible cogging issues. Tried recalibrating and installing software, still the same issue. Put my Dash speed control back in and NO issues whatsoever, same amp draw and load. Very disappointed, others I know in the hobby/industry have had the same exact issue. Purchased on March 7th from Your Battery Buddy, delivered on March 13th, ran for the first time today, April 25th, and having these issues after literally the 1st hit.

User Note

4/28/2021  Check in

4/28/2021 Inspection – Capacitor protective covering has been removed. MOSFET board is damaged. Please see pictures.

One of the things that stands out as a potential problem is the birdcage style connectors you are using. we recommend changing those out to a different style of bullet connector or XT90 connector. Other potential causes could be:

  • Improper power input (reverse polarity)
  • Excessive amp draw (excessive burnout, improper gearing, etc)
  • Motor out of sync (bridged terminals, sensor gap)

This damage is not a manufacturers defect, but because the ESC is so new and we arent able to determine the exact cause, we will cover this repair this one time. Please change those connectors out and check the rest of your set up so this doesn’t happen again. Please see testing video.
