Product To Return : MCL2003 MMax Pro 160A ESC
Problem With Product : i’m sending two esc:

1st esc: I sent this back to you guys like 3 months ago. I ran it for a day, breaks in between and it stopped working again. The esc still turns on but the motor won’t spin. but sometimes when i spin the tires couple times with my hands it will engage when i pull the throttle. I paid $100 when i got this fixed and this one didn’t even last me a day.

2nd esc: I’ve had this for a while now and it lasted me. I was out doing some pulls and when i launched the car it stopped and i heard a small pop. I looked at it and the cap pack solder was out so i went back inside and soldered it. esc turned on no weird smell or anything but the motor wouldn’t engage at all. kinda the same issue as the 1st esc.

User Note

12/3/2020  Check in. Production code: ESC#1 n/a, ESC#2 P2026.

12/4/2020 Inspection Unit #1

  • The ESC was a previous return unit under RMA#1502.
  • The ESC this time has permanent damage on MOSFETs. It was installed with XT60 connector that was already worn out on the metal surface. The ESC has 42 degrees of TURBO timing. See the below photos.

  • The damage on the MOSFET indicates excessive current draw.
  • The cost to build this ESC is $100.

Inspection of unit #2

  • The ESC has a few issues that can be the causes of damage.
    • The bullet connectors were completely worn out.
    • The capacitor module were melted and resoldered. This indicated excessive current draw with incorrect setup.
    • Sensor cable was damaged.
    • The MOSFETs were completely damaged.

  • The cost to rebuild this ESC is $100.

Final note:

It has brought to our attention that both ESCs problem were caused by excessive current draws. It is often due to one or more of the following points.

  • Gearing
  • Motor timing too high
  • ESC TURBO timing too high
  • Wearout connectors
  • Long and full throttle tire burnouts (more than 5 sec is considered too long, and should not be full throttle)

We would like to help you to make correct setup so you will not damage the ESC so easily again. Could you please let us know your setup details:

  • Chassis type
  • Motor brand and turns
  • Motor gearing (Spur + pinion)
  • Motor timing
  • Tire burnout time

We’d like to give you a call around 12pm lunch time or 4:30pm. Please let us know what time you will be available. Thanks

12/4/2020 Communication

  • Our tech support, Colin Branch, would offer you this 30% off for the service, and waive the $8 shipping.
  • The total cost of these 2 ESC rebuild is $140 plus WA tax. Please reply if you wish to proceed the service.

12/8/2020 Service

Unit #1

  • Rebuilt ESC with brand new control board, MOSFET board, and capacitor module
  • Tested and verified ESC, see unit #1 testing video.
  • Note: the cooling fan on the ESC was permanently damaged. do not reused. Also, the screws on the fan was incorrect size. We gave 4 pcs of correct screws in case the ESC will be mounted with another aluminum fan.

Unit #2

  • Rebuilt ESC with brand new control board, MOSFET board, and capacitor module
  • Tested and verified ESC see unit #2 testing video.

Note: the unit #2 has completely cold solder XT60 connector. See XT60 cold soldering video. and the below photos

This problem must be addressed in order to avoid further issues to the ESC.
