User Note

11/12/2020  Check in. The motor is out of warranty. We will perform a free inspection and get back to you in a few days.

11/13/2020 Inspection

  • The motor has excessive current draw on motor analyzer.
  • The motor has a modified front cap, and a stripped rear cap screw (this causes the motor not able to be opened up for service). Please see the below photos. We will need some machining work to remove the screw before we can make a comment, and to offer options. It will be in next week to find the machining resource.

  • Please reply and let us know what application (chassis, and gearing) was this motor used on. Also, have the user tried to unscrew the end cap and stripped the screw. Thank you

11/17/2020

  • Removed the stripped screw and checked the internal.
  • The motor had a defective rotor.
  • We will rebuild the motor under warranty.

11/20/2020

  • With further inspection on all components, the rotor was not the defective source. The damage was on the stator. The stator was overheated and burnt, possibly caused by excessive gearing or over voltage.

  • The motor did not fail due to the “manufacture defect”. It was used in a manner in which it was not designed for, but we will fix it for free this time only.
  • We tested and verify the motor after the rebuild process. See RMA#1583 testing video.

Communication notes:

  • Maclan MR8.3 series motors were designed for off road e buggy and e truggy competitions.
  • This motor was not intended for bashing, or speed running.
  • This motor requires to be set at the gearing range of e buggy and truggy manufacturer’s recommendations with maximum of 4S under ROAR and IFMAR regulations. A common gearing range for MR8.3 2100KV motor in a e truggy is 46T spur with 14T~15T pinion gear.
  • Detailed specifications can be found in the website:  https://www.maclan-racing.com/products/mr8-3-1-8th-scale-competition-motor/
  • We have rebuilt the motor and ensured it’s good. We will send back to you with a tracking number provided later.Thank you for the understanding.
