Product To Return : MCL2003 MMax Pro 160A ESC
Problem With Product : The first time powering the ESC fan was on full and began to heat up without any throttle given. This is a repaired unit that was recently sent back. This was the first time it has been powered and all that was done was adjusting trim for steering and throttle. Upon further inspection, the black wire from the capacitor pack had come unsoldered. While removing the esc the shrink wrap of the cap pack tore when being removed. I have included this in the return. I also have pictures of my set up if this helps. My gearing was a 24 tooth pinion and a 78 tooth spur and the #2 profie was selected for blinky 4wd and was in a B64D with the 13.5T Macaln MRR motor. Like I had stated the car never drove once or did the wheels spin. It heated up shortly after powering. I also noticed that on powering the fan ran at high speed immediately and stayed there until it started to slow down and eventually stop. After pulling the plug I noticed that when applying my finger to the top of the fan it was hot. I have had bad luck with this unit and it is discouraging. I really want this unit to work… I will attach pictures asap after the email is sent to me.

User Note

Check-in: 3/25/2019 3:55pm PST

Inspection: 3/27/2019

  • The repaired ESC appears to have damaged MOSFET power board.
  • Checked all points and discovered the cooling fan was shorted. That could be the possible cause of the ESC damage. The fan damage could be from the first return.
  • We would provide this one time courtesy service to replace all internals of the ESC with brand new control board, MOSFET board and capacitor module, along with a new cooling fan.
  • Test ESC with lab motor to confirm functions. See RMA1150 testing video (with lab motor).
  • Test ESC again with customer’s 13.5T motor to confirm functions. See RMA1150 testing video (with customer’s 13.5T motor).
  • We will keep the motor attached when returning the ESC.

At Maclan we are firm believers in giving the customer the benefit of the doubt and as such would honor your warranty on this unit despite these findings.

Although the warranty has been honored, it is necessary to define that any possible future misuse, abuse or non-recommended practices would result in a voided warranty under which no damages, liabilities or any other penalties may be sought against Maclan Racing Products.
